Getting Started

Get a Straight & Beautiful Smile

Choosing orthodontic care is a big decision, and we respect your reasons for wanting to improve the way you look and feel.

Dr Amra will work with you at every step to make sure your orthodontic care is as rewarding as possible. We utilise the latest technology and offer various safe and gentle treatment options to give you the customised, individual care you deserve.

Your Initial Exam & Consultation

When you arrive for your first appointment, our caring staff will greet you and help you complete all your onboarding paperwork. To save time, you can also complete this paperwork at home and email it to us ahead of your appointment. We'll ask you a few questions about your medical and dental history and collect your medical aid information.

Once the consultation starts, you'll get a panoramic X-ray and, in most cases, a cephalometric X-ray and photos of your face and teeth. Next, we take impressions and utilise the latest in digital intra-oral scan technology to create a plaster or 3D printed model of your mouth. Dr Amra will review these with you and examine your teeth and your bite. All this information will allow him to determine the best course of treatment.

You'll also have the opportunity to ask questions about your proposed treatment and view models and animations of the recommended techniques and appliances.

During the consultation, we will discuss the complete proposed treatment plan and treatment cost, including payment options and any available medical aid benefits. It is our goal for the patient and family to understand:

  • Whether treatment is indicated or not
  • The proposed treatment (or available treatment options).
  • The recommended timing of treatment for the most efficient and effective results.
  • The length and cost of treatment.

Dr Amra offers case discussion to any patient and family members who wish to further discuss the proposed treatment and treatment costs.

Starting Treatment

Once the patient has accepted the treatment plan, treatment can commence. When you get your appliances (braces, expanders, etc.), the appointment usually takes one hour, and then follow-up appointments begin four to eight weeks later.

Regular Appointments

You'll then see Dr Amra at regular intervals for adjustments during your treatment four to eight weeks apart.

We make every effort to be on time for our patients and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you can't keep an appointment, please let us know as soon as possible. Please only cancel if it's an emergency or you're ill and contagious. It is difficult to reschedule patients because most appointments are made four to eight weeks in advance.
